Celebrating 40+ Years of Commitment – Barry’s Journey

From packing pavers by hand to managing an entire plant, Barry’s story is one of hard work, growth, and loyalty.

Barry began his career in 1983 on a Youth Training Scheme at Fine Fare in Stanley, before joining Consett Block Company in 1984 - just before it became part of the Thomas Armstrong Group. Starting out as a packer, Barry quickly progressed through roles on the mixer and block machine, and by 1990, he was appointed Plant Manager.

Over the years, Barry has seen major changes -from manual labour to modern machinery, and from hands-on work to navigating evolving health and safety legislation. Through it all, his commitment has never wavered.

Barry credits his mentor, Trevor Bowman, former MD, as a key influence - describing him as a workaholic perfectionist who passed on invaluable knowledge.

Even after 40+ years, Barry still enjoys his job, and continues to play a vital role in the production of high-quality pavers.
